According to Tradition, Golgotha is directly under the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. There were also a few testimonies that a Mount of a few meters once existed (see link).
However Golgotha, according to scriptures, was:
- cranium).
Golgotha is on the other side of Jerusalem, outside the eastern wall, overlooking the temple ground. Today the gate is the Lion's gate, but at the time of Jesus it was the Sheep Gate. It is about one Kilometer east of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. (Refer to the links
and related questions).
Gabbatha was in the Roman Quarter, likely near the area today underneath the Ecco Homo Covenant on the road Via Dolorosa 41. From there to the Lion's Gate (earlier Sheep Gate) it is a bit over 300 meters. Jesus would have carried the cross to the Sheep Gate, 300 meters. And as they left the city, Simon of Cyrene carried his cross up the steep slope of Golgotha.
And coming out (of Jerusalem through the Sheep Gate),they found a man of Cyrene named Simon. They compelled him to carry his cross. Matt 27,32
Since the base of Golgotha is directly at the Sheep Gate, Simon would not have carried the cross for more than 50 meters.
Many claim that Golgotha was on the grounds upon which the Church of the Holy Sepulcher was built. However the Holy Scriptures and the early church father Origen of the third century testify that it was an actual hill which looked like the top of a skull. There was never a hill where the Church of the Sepulcher was located. To see the only hill in the vicinity of Jerusalem which looks like the top of a skull refer to the link below. This hill is about 1000 yards from the Holy Sepulcher Church.

I take it you mean the Church of the Holy Sepulcher ,a marvellous experience. It is in Jerusalem. It was one of the proudest moments of my life to visit this Church on pilgrimage and to be offered the use of an altar.
Under orders from Emperor Constantine and his mother Helena construction on the original church began in the year 328.
he died in jerusliem. ==== Jesus was crucified at Golgotha (the place of the skulls). The location of Golgotha is unknown, but it was outside the walls of Jerusalem. In the Bible, John 19:20 records this as the place, and it would be keeping with both Jewish and Roman customs.
It's the spot where Jesus was crucified, and is said to contain Jesus's grave.
No, this church was not even built until the fourth century, 300 years after the Bible's final book was completed by John in 96CE.
It does not appear that the Catacombs in Rome are directly related to the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem at all. The Catacombs are ancient burial places while the Sepulcher has a completely different story of it's own.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre also called the Church of the Resurrection, by Eastern Christians, is a Christian church within the walled Old City of Jerusalem. Today it also serves as the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem.
