The distance is about 47 miles, but the length of time to get there / back depends on how you choose to travel. There are several options:

  • Car: Take the Golden Gate Bridge (pretty), then continue on 101 until you get to exit 37. Continue on 37 until Highway 121, then take a left at Highway 29. The drive takes about an hour.
  • Public Transportation: Take the BayLink Ferry line from the San Francisco Ferry building at the beginning of Market Street. Try to avoid rush hour. Take the Vallejo ferry (about an hour on the water), and then take the Vine bus, route 10, into Napa. Nice, relaxing views of the bay.
  • Tour: There are a lot of Napa Valley shuttle tours where they will pick you up in the morning and bring you back in the evening, so you don't have to stress about fares or traffic, and can just enjoy yourself. The only bad part is not being able to decide to leave early, but hopefully that won't be an issue.

The approximate driving time and mileage information -

Between: San Francisco, CA

and: Napa Valley, CA

Driving miles: 60

Driving time: 1 hr 15 mins

- is based on traveling non-stop in good driving conditions. Driving time does not take into consideration conditions which may extend travel time such as weather, road work, border crossings, and rush hour traffic in urban areas. Mileage denotes actual road miles covered as opposed to Point A to Point B linear distances on a map.
