As much as Wayne didn't care for horses, he really loved dogs. One in particular, Blacky, saved his wife and baby daughter from certain death in a house fire. Blacky was a dashound and became a hero when his persistant barking woke up the household while Wayne was away filming a movie.
In the movie "Big Jake" he had a dog named "dawg" and in Hondo the dog's name was "Sam"
i only know of 1 movie where John Wayne had a dog, it was big jake, other than that i don't know of any others also hondo
