Using too large of a sample when determining its melting point will flaw your results since, if the sample is too large it will be harder for the sample to melt in the melting point apparatus.

We would need far more detail in order to even begin to guess why there might be any effect. The melting point of a substance is an intrinsic property; it shouldn't depend on the amount of substance being melted.
