The standard emergency number in the UK is 999. This will put you in contact with police, fire brigade or ambulance, as well as some specialist services such as the coastguard and mountain rescue.

The UK is also one of the many countries around the world that have adopted the standard international emergency number of "112". This number runs alongside other established emergency numbers in all European and many other countries so is useful to remember if travelling. In the UK, it connects to the same emergency operator as 999 does.
