An Ball Peen Hammer
You possibly mean a MAUL hammer. This is a large heavy hammer, often of 4-8 pounds weight. There is a flat striking face one side and generally a small axe on the opposite side. It's used for pounding spikes and stakes and for splitting logs.
The ball peen hammer has a wooden shaft, generally 12 " long, and a steel head with a round flat face for hitting nails and on the opposing end an elongated face of about 1/8 wide, 1/2 long. This part is the peen, and is intended for striking tacks and other small nails with large heads.
When the surface is struck the initial hit is just the rubber face and the plastic or metal housing of the mallet, the significant force if from the weight inside moving from the back of the hammer to the striking face after it is struck. So the significant blow comes when the hammer is not moving or dead. This helps keep the surface that is being struck from being damaged.
The blunt end of the hammer is called the 'peen.' Other parts of the hammer include the face, the head, the eye and the cheek.
The ball-peen hammer is useful for many tasks, such as striking punches and chisels usually performed with the flat face of the hammer. The peening face is useful for rounding off edges of metal pins and fasteners, such as rivets. The process of peening (surface hardening by impact) has become rarer in metal fabrication.
It is called the base.
Depends. There's nothing wrong with a club that looks sort of like a putter with loft. It can't, however, be usable from both sides. According to the rules: Appendix II, 4c states that: The clubhead must only have one striking face, except that a putter may have two such faces if their characteristics are the same, and they are opposite each other. This rule was intended to specifically prohibit clubs with two striking faces, but they made an exception for plain blade putters with two identical opposing faces.
Hammer Smashed Face was created on 1993-03-23.
On the back, face up is called a supine position. The opposite is called the prone position.
