How to Set timing on nissan sentra 1600cc 1989 model
Ha yes timing belt breakage in any car can cause damage to the engine... things like bent valves, scored cylinder walls and possible engine failure. That is why the idea is to replace timing belts before they break.
The 1989 Nissan Stanza 2.0 4 cylinder has a timing belt. This is also an Interferance Engine, and as such if the belt breaks, serious engine damage will occur. The belt should be replaced at 60,000 miles.

It's a green relay located under the left (driver's) side of the dash
I was able to change the starter on my 1989 Nissan pulsar, by first lifting the front of the car. Then I placed a jack under the passenger side of the engine. Then remove the bolt from the passenger side of the motor. Then jack the side of the engine till you can access the bolts on the starter. The bolts also serve as a mount for the transmission. There is one wire hookup. The stud on the starter is a light guage metal, and can be striped very easy. So be careful.
