On the side facing away, the vacuum of space allows the temperatures to drop to -183°C (-300°F) As the planet slowly turns (one rotation every 60 days), areas along the terminator are rapidly heated or cooled when transitioning from night to day or day to night. The difference in the daytime heat is due to Mercury's closeness to the Sun, an average of just 1/3 the distance from Earth to the Sun.

Venus's surface temperature is hugely hotter than Earth's. Earth's temperature runs between -50 degrees and 140 degrees, with some exceptions.

Venus's surface temperature is a fairly consistent 860 degrees, because there is always a thick cloud cover on Venus that holds the heat in.
