The bodily appearance of Christ when the disciples were hiding together for fear of the Jewish authorities is significant because in the account He demonstrated to them that He had arisen bodily. and that it was the same body that had been crucified, died, and entombed. Because it was such an amazing event outside of normality that Thomas who was absent, remained unbelieving - just as the other disciples had been previously - until he too saw Christ and touched his wounds just over a week later.

John 19
In the New Testament book of Luke, chapter 3 verse 15, people were expecting the Messiah to come soon. They were eager to know if John who was baptising people with water was the Messiah. In verse 16 it says, John answered the question by saying, " I baptise only with water; but someone is coming soon who has far higher authority than mine; in fact, I am not even worthy of being his slave." He of course meant Jesus. In the book of John, Chapter 1 verse 19 it says theat the Jewish leaders sent people to John asking if he was the Messiah and when he said no, they asked if he was Elijah.
This statement can be found in the Gospel of John, Chapter 2, verses 19-21. Jesus said, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." He was referring to the temple of his body and his future resurrection.
