I found it hard to believe, but a couple of sources say it is 1-2-3-4-5-6; the even numbers are in the 'right' bank.

AnswerMy 1993 Montero 3.0L V6 is...1,2,3,4,5,6 and only holds 4.5 Qts of Oil. Crazy car builders.

I agree. From the Hynes manual OWM1944. The firing order is 1,2,3,4,5,6.

Standing with the hood open and facing into the engine compartment, the uneven numbered cylinders are on your left and the even on the right.

Number one, is the one on the left nearest you and fires left, right, left right etc from the front of the engine to the back.
