Noah sent out a raven first, followed by a dove. A week later, another dove was released:
Genesis 8:7-9 (KJV)7:And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. 8:Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;Genesis 8:6-10 (NKJV) So it came to pass, at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made. Then he sent out a raven, which kept going to and fro until the waters had dried up from the earth. He also sent out from himself a dove, to see if the waters had receded from the face of the ground. But the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, and she returned into the ark to him, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her, and drew her into the ark to himself.

Since Noah emerged from the ark in Ararat, we may surmise that the ark was not very far from there when he sent the raven and the dove. Today, Mount Ararat is near the intersection of the borders of Turkey, Armenia and Iran. Georgia and Azerbaijan are not very far away.
Noah sent out his trio of birds to find out if the rest of the world was dry.

Noah spots land and God sends the first rainbowand the ark gets on dry land.
After the rains, as the flood waters receded, the raven was the first that Noah sent out on a reconnaissance mission. Why the raven ? His reason for that choice isn't mentioned in the text, but I'd suggest for your that it could have been because ravens live very well off of carrion, of which plenty was laying around as the waters receded and the land was revealed.
Actually the people laughed at Noah , as he built a ark on dry land without any sign of water or rain in the sky. So they did not follow him as they were living in sin.
The dove that came back with an olive leaf. And then didn't come back the second time. Must have found dry land.
The olive leaf in the dove's beak was God's way of informing Noah that the land was again supporting plant life. Noah had not yet looked out of the ark at this point. He sent the dove out 7 days later and it did not return. Only then did Noah remove the covering of the ark to look out and he saw dry land. However, he remained on the ark another 6 weeks before God allowed him to leave.
