∙ 12y agoUsually the first software used on any computer is a simplistic functional diagnostic program: e.g. a short loop that counts a register up, a short loop to fill a block of memory with a constant then stop.

∙ 12y agoThis would have to be Ada Augusta Countess of Lovelace's code written in the appendix of her translation to English of an Italian work on the Analytical Engine. It was never tested though as the machine was never built.
