Muscle tissue is composed of cells that react to a stimulus by becoming shorter, so they are able to perform work. There are three different kinds of muscle tissue. One kind is attached to bones, and when these muscles shorten, they pull to make the body move in various ways.

There are three types of muscle tissues: smooth, skeletal and cardiac.

  • Smooth tissues regulate the blood pressure and flow of blood in arteries. Also found in the digestive system in the stomach and intestines to cause the peristalsic movement.
  • keletal muscles bring about movement of bones and are involved in the breathing process.
  • Cardiac muscles are found in the heart and cause the rhythmical beating of the heart, enabling the blood vessels to carry food and oxygen to the cells of the body.
