Gastrointestinal tract is a pathway for entrance, passage, digestion, metabolism and excretion of food and consists of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, intestines, colon, rectum and anus
The alimentary tract is another name for the digestive tract. It begins with the oral cavity (mouth) to the larynx, stomach, small intestine, colon (large intestine), rectus and the anus (opening to the outside). This system grinds up food, digests it, absorbs fats, sugars, and proteins. Lastly, it removes water and stores waste until it is time to remove it.
The GI tract is where the chemical digestion occurs, accessory organs are where the food is just passed through.
The gastrointestinal tract and accessory organs together comprise the digestive system.
