About as accurate as you can get. Cornelius Ryan researched the book intensely, and the story was brought to the screen faithfully. A few changes had to be made. The paratroopers actually jumped from airplanes, but they were unable to land where the cameras were pointed, so this scene was re-filmed and they were dropped from cranes.
