Sikhs believe that It is where the original scriptures of all the Gurus teaching are. The main Guru Grand Sahib as it were. My Sikh friend told me that Sikhs believe it is the Centre of all Sikhism (along with Guru Nanak's Sikh village). Rather like Christianity it is believed it is where one can connect with the God (Christianity's Holy Spirit). It is build how it is to purify the Area and to teach with love. At least that is what I am aware of.
