The national grid is a means of distributing electricity, there is no need for a dynamo (which produces electricity) in the national grid. However, dynamos (generators) are needed in the power stations.

What is a dynamo attendant?

Extract from http://www.ebooksread.com/authors-eng/national-school-of-electricity/electricity-and-magnetism--lessons-of-the-national-school-of-electricity--gene-hci/page-24-electricity-and-magnetism--lessons-of-the-national-school-of-electricity--gene-hci.shtmlCopyrighted, 1895, The National School of Electricity. We will suppose, for an example, a large continuous currentstation in which one or two engines with their dynamos have beenrunning all day to supply the demand for current in the daytime, and, as evening approaches, additional engines and dynamos mustbe put into service to provide for the greater demand for current dur-ing the hours of dusk. A short time before additional machinesare likely to be needed one or more engines with their dynamos aremade ready for running, and are then started at a slow speed to warmthem up. After a time one of the sets is brought to full speed andthe dynamo attendant at the switchboard changes the resistance inthe field circuit by means of the dynamo regulator, which is placedon the board, until the lamps mounted on top of the dynamo burnwith approximately normal candle-power. The dynamo is thenready to be put into circuit whenever it is needed. When this timecomes, the dynamo attendant connects the free terminal of thedynamo to the dynamo galvanometer (Fig. 322) and moves the dynamoregulator until the galvanometer needle comes to zero. The pressuredeveloped by the fresh dynamo is then exactly equal to the bus barpressure. The dynamo attendant now closes the dynamo switch, thus puttingthe machine into circuit, and then moves the regulator until theamperemeter shows that the dynamo is taking its proper proportionof the load. While this is being done, another generating set isbrought to speed and made ready to go into circuit whenever it isrequired. The operation is repeated until all the dynamo capacitythat is required during the period of heavy load is in service. Somecities are subject to sudden periods of darkness caused by cloudsor smoke, and at such times it often requires very prompt action onthe part of station attendants to get the dynamos into circuit asquickly as they are needed.

How does national grid make electricity?

The North American national grid does not make the electricity. The grid is a distribution system that transports power throughout the system to homes that are connected to it. The power for the grid is produced elsewhere at generating stations that feed into the grid.

What part does the National Grid play in gas distribution?

The National Grid is a vital part of how gas gets distributed to homes all across the country. The National Grid controls the flow of gas to homes since all gas flows through their systems. The National Grid takes the gas from its source and transport it to the end user.

How does national grid transform energy to electrical energy?

I don't think it does. The purpose of a national grid is to transfer the electrical energy from one place to another, not to generate it. Any power station that generates electricity would not be considered part of a national grid.
