In MOST states it is 18 to own any shoulder-fired weapon. In order to own what the military considers an assault rifle, you also have to have a Class 3 Federal Firearms Lisence, but some states and cities definition of an 'assault rifle' includes anything that looks dangerous and NO ONE is allowed to own one there.

∙ 14y agoAn "assualt rifle" is nothing more than a regular semi-automatic rifle with a diffent looking stock. Instead of a traditional wood stock, what people call an "assualt rifle" usually has a black plastic stock and a pistol grip and sometimes a carry handle. In most states you have to be 18 years old to buy a rifle or rifle ammunition and since an assault rifle is functionaly the same as any regular semi-auto hunting rifle then you have to be at least 18 to purchase one... unless your state has different laws.
