The clinical limitations of BMI should be considered. BMI is a surrogate measure of body fatness because it is a measure of excess weight rather than excess body fat. Factors such as age, sex, ethnicity, and muscle mass can influence the relationship between BMI and body fat.
It is based purely on the persons mass and height. It does not take into account the difference between muscle mass and body fat so a person with a higher than average muscle mass may be scored as being overweight (i.e. carrying excess fat which is an indicator of potential ill health) when they are not.
BMI values are:
Underweight: under 18,5
Normal: 18,5-25,5
Overweight: 25,5-29,9
Obese: more than 30
BMI is a measure that is calculated by dividing body mass by the square of the height. The body mass index is easier to calculate by using a BMI calculator
BMI is 28

Yes, the BMI scale or Body Mass Index is a tool used to measure the percentage of body fat in an individual using both height and weight. The formula uses your weight divided by the square of your height.
The ideal body mass index (BMI) for adults is between 18.5 & 24.9 To figure out what this means for you, try using a BMI calculator or table such as the one below. http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
