Central/interior Alaska near the Yukon border is the coldest in the winter (but ironically the warmest in the summer, due to its continental climate). It isn't unusual to drop below -40 degrees in the winter, and -50 happens most places in most winters.

Alaska's lowest elevation is sea level at the Pacific Ocean. Alaska's highest level is 20,320 feet above sea level at Denali (formerly known as Mount McKinley).
