A qualitative observation is an observation of what something is, such as, I saw a pig, I saw sunlight, I saw a plane flying by, I saw a green fluid, etc. A quantitative observation is a numerical measurement of something, such as, I have 7.9 grams of sugar, the current air temperature is 13o C, the car is traveling at 52 kph, etc.
A quantitative [think 'quantity'] observation is an observation that you can relate specific numbers to. For example, a quantitative observation might be "It rained 1.5 inches yesterday."
A qualitative [think 'quality'] observation is an observation that does not include specific numbers, such as "It rained a lot yesterday" or "It rained more yesterday than today."
Basically qualitative observations are about the properties of what is being observed that do not use numerical units. Quantitative observations are those that do use measurements.
The first will have numerical values associated wit the observations the second will not.
A qualitative observation has to do with things you can't count, "The fish has black scales" is a qualitative observation. A quantitative observation has to do with things you can count, "The fish has 125 scales" is a quantitative observation. You can combine these two, an example would be "The fish has 125 black scales."
The difference is that qualitative is wade with 1 of your 5 senses and the other one which is quantitative is an observation involving numbers.
quantitative observation is observing numbers such as "there are twenty potatoes". Qualitative observation is observing anything that is not countable such as "the potatoes are all brown"
Quantitative observations are the data collected in an experiment, mostly numbers. Qualitative observations would usually include written answers to analysis questions.

A quantitative observation is one that is measurable and gives you a numeric, well defined measurement, e.g. the water bath increases in temperature by 3K every second. A qualitative observation is one in which there is no numeric measurement, e.g. the water bath gets hotter with time.
