on passover, actually, it was the last strike that God did on the Egyptions; the one when all Egypt's male firstborns died. at that night of the strike, the Jewish people were eating the passover secrifice. so at that night, God passed over the Jews houses and kill only the Egyption male firstborns.

That's a common misconception, that it's a 'meal'. In truth, the first night of Passover in Israel and the first 2 nights outside of Israel, involve a religious service held in the home, this service is called a 'seder'. During the seder, prayers are said, small bites of symbolic foods are eaten, and the story of the exodus is read. Approximately halfway through the service, a break is taken to eat dinner. After dinner, the religious service is complete. Special foods are eaten such as matzohs which are unleavened bread, the food food on the table represents things. Like the roasted egg which represents one of the two sacrifices offered when the Temple stood, salt water which represents the tears of slavery, and charoset which represents the mortar used by the Israelites to build buildings.

the main event of the passover was the passing of the angel of death over all the Israelite houses as the Egyptian firstborn were smitten. Today, the main event was the Passover Seder meal, at which the events of the Exodus are retold.

The first night of Passover in Israel and the first two nights outside of Israel are observed with a religious ceremony in the home. This ceremony is called a 'seder' which means 'order', during this ceremony, the story of the exodus from Egypt is read around a meal. During the week of Passover, family and friends get together to eat with each other.
