nephrons are the functional unit of our kidneys. their major fuctions are filltration of impure blood in the malphigian corpuscle , then reabsorption of water, sodium in the proximal convuluted tubule and the loop of henle and formation and excretion of various harmful metabolic substances like para amino hippuric acid, para amino benzoic acid.it also plays crucial role in the maitainance of body osmolarity especially sodium concentration in blood by the juxataglomerular apparatus present in it.facultative water absorption is exhibited by distal convuluted tubule in times of water deficiency.

How do nephrons in the kidney get damaged?

If your blood pressure is too high, as in the case of someone with hypertension, the glomerulus of the nephron can burst rendering that nephron useless. Without a glomerulus, the nephron cannot achieve pressure filtration, which is one of the main functions of the kidney.
