Enzymes are bio-molecules that act as catalyts for different reactions. They are made up of amino acids. For each reaction, there is a specific enzyme. During each enzymatic reaction, there are molecules at the beginning called substrates which are converted into products. They basically carry out every reaction happening within the body, hence they sustain life.

Chemical digestion as well as other chemical processes such as respiration (the release of energy from food) and photosynthesis (plants making their own food) happen because of enzymes. Enzymes are catalysts that are found in living things. They increase the rate of a reaction without undergoing any permanent chemical changes themselves and they also help substances to become new substances.

Enzymes are proteins which are produced by cells. They are specific - this means that each enzyme only works on one substance.

A* extra if you're interested - Digestive enzymes are only one type of enzyme. Each chemical process in the body is controlled by a different enzyme.

to act as catalysts, speeding up the reaction
Enzymes act as catalyst for the reaction by providing the proper places for molecule to meet and lessening the energy needed to complete the reaction. Otherwise, reactions could only happen if - by coincidence - all the molecules collided in the proper places with the right amount of energy.

they speed up chemical reactions

What is the major role of proteins in the body?

To function as enzymes (in chemical reactions).

What is are the proteins called that are used to speed up chemical reactions?

The proteins that speed up chemical reactions are called enzymes. Enzymes function as biological catalysts, facilitating reactions by lowering the activation energy required for the reaction to occur.

What are the chemical reactions in which enzymes are involved?

enzymes involve in bio chemical reactions.

How enzymes control chemical reactions?

enzymes helps control chemical reactions by the chemical in it called collagen when enzymes enter your body they create a chemical reactions and controls the chemical reactions you get by eating too much acids.

What is the function of enzymes in living thing?

The function of enzymes in living things is to catalyze (instigate, speed up) chemical reactions.

What is the substance called that helps chemical reactions happen in the body?

enzymes carry out chemical reactions, and enzymes are in proteins, so preoteins carry out chemical reactions

We call these enzymes but there are ones in chemical reactions which do the same but are called catalysts.
