Lamarck predicted that changes inherited in the parent's own lifetime would be inherited. This would mean, among other things that:

  • A parent mouse has its tail chopped off. It would have tailless offspring.
  • A blacksmith with strong muscles (due to his trade) will have stronger offspring than an otherwise identical non-blacksmith.
  • Children would inherit any scars their parents had.

None of the three above scenarios are the case, contrary to what Lamarck predicted.

What are the differences between Darwin's and lamarcks theory of evolution?

Larmark's theory was based on the idea that organisms inherited characteristics that they had acquired in life - so, if you have a scar your offspring will have scars. Darwin's theory assumed that offspring inherited characteristics from their parents, but they were more likely to survive to breed if there was advantage to those characteristics.

Major theoris of social problem solving?

Some major theories of social problem solving include social learning theory, which emphasizes how individuals learn problem-solving skills through observation and modeling, and cognitive-behavioral theory, which focuses on how thoughts, behaviors, and emotions influence problem-solving processes. Additionally, ecological systems theory highlights the importance of considering how multiple systems (e.g., individual, interpersonal, community) interact to influence social problem-solving outcomes.

How was Darwin's theory of evolution different from lamarcks?

In Darwin's theory, natural selection plays the key role. Organisms vary through random mutations--slight changes from their parents. The environment determines which are most likely to survive. In Lamarck's theory, changes in phenotype are inherited. This is now known to be (largely) incorrect.

Why was Lamarcks theory disproved?

Weismann started an experiment, where he cut off tails on many mice, and let them live like that. When they had offspring, their offspring had tails, proving that traits that are altered during a life-span, don't get passed on to the next generation
