I think it's telling you there is a possible problem with the auto-box.Corsa's are like this,so I'm guessing Astra is the same. The "S" should light up when you press the sport button on the gear selector, this causes the intermediate gears to hold on longer for accelleration or hillclimbing with a c…aravan on the back. You could try cycling the "S" button to see if it helps, though I think it cancels anyway with ign off. The "S" symbol flashes to alert you to a problem,it may require no more than a computer reset. The gearbox is checked for faults with a diagnostic kit, same as the engine.Hopefully,a short visit to a dealer will solve it for you. We had the same problem with a 1995 Asta - I plugged the scanner in and cleared all the codes and the light no longer flashes, so your answer seems perfectly correct! ( Full Answer )

I wondered that myself. Turns out it's not a sun, it's a lightbulb. The answer I found is this: "Indicates that the side marker, parking, tail, license plate, instrument panel and headlights havebeen turned on ."
The "symbol" I believe you are talking about is actually the coolant level is low. It appears to be what looks to be like a crankcase filter and it glows orange on the lower left instrument cluster. I was puzzled on mine as well and finally figured it out.
The symbols on the dashboard of a Honda Civic reference each systemof the car. They reference the brake system, battery power, temperature, check engine, and several others.
it means your coolant is low. All Aleros do this- your lower intake gaskets are not functioning properly and need to be replaced. We just had to do it on mine. An illuminated car symbol on the dashboard of a Peugeot 307 is the open door warning. Indication that one or more doors are not closed properly.
The exclamation point means that your tires have a low air pressure. You may want to check it out and see which tire may need some air. Check your owner's manual for dashboard symbols. Some of them are more important than others. The exclamation point between parenthesis (!) is supposed to represe…nt a tire icon. As the original answer indicated, it means one (or more) of your tires is low on pressure. Consult the owners manual or driver's side door sticker for proper pressures then reset the pressure sensing system. To reset, hold down the button (lower left side of dash) until the (!) light flashes several times. You then have to drive several miles before the sensor calibrates itself again. If the light comes back on in a very short time, you didn't hold the button long enough. Wait for the light to stop flashing. If the light comes on again in a day or a few days, you have a slow leak in one tire. Have it repaired. Cheers ( Full Answer )
If you don't have a manual, GET ONE! This is the check engine light (that's why it's shaped like an engine...) It could be anything from low gas pressure to a vacuum leak to burnt valves, anything that causes irregularities in the engine's operation will trigger this light. There are a dozen sensors… for different things (air, gas, spark, and all the things necessary to keep them balanced), and when one of them detects that something's out of whack, it lights this up. Your mechanic can get the code for what's wrong off the car's computer, or you can buy an OBDII (On Board Diagnostic) tool yourself and read the codes. Caution; some conditions will WRECK YOUR ENGINE if you drive with them unrepaired for too long! ( Full Answer )

My dad says the light is the door ajar light. Turn on the car, and open and close all of the doors and trunk a few times while monitoring the light to see if it goes off. If it doesn't, then take it to a shop cause you have a problem with one of the switches.
You got a problem with your catalytic converter potentially Might just be a dodgy sensor, though.

That light is a warning that the fuel/water seperator has collected at least 100cc of water. You should drain the water from the seperator as soon as possible. If it continues usually means you have bad fuel.

2006 GMC Envoy a symbol appeared and my car would not start. It was a car with a padlock attached. After I sat for a few minutes it turned back over and it drives fine. what is the symbol?
This is the Traction Control System indicator. It illuminates when it is in use. It can also be turned off in which case it would illumiate with TCS or DSC OFF indicated.
it is your check engine light. If it is on you are having problems with normal operation of the engine. Most of the time it is something very simple and emission related. Normally it is an exhaust gas regulation valve(egr) or an oxygen(o2) sensor. Go to auto zone and ask them to scan it for you to g…et the code that your power train control module(pcm) will have stored. They should do it for you for free. If you take it to a dealer they normally charge about 35 to 50 dollars to use their scan tool. ( Full Answer )

That is most likely the Check Engine Light. In most usual cases, it's just a faulty sensor you need to replace. Any dealer of your brand of vehicle has code readers for these lights and could tell you what sensor is faulty. Beware, they can be costly though. Anything computer is. I believe you would… not pass inspection if this was not fixed. Now if the Service Vehicle Soon light came on, stop driving it, you'd have a major issue that could kill the engine. ( Full Answer )
It is the Check Engine light. It comes on when the ECU detects a problem with the emissions system. Can be as simple as a loose gas cap or can be serious. Have the ECU scanned.

When the key is on but engine not running the lights on the dash come on as a self test. With the engine running the light going off is a good thing, it means no problems detected by the onboard computer. The light would only be lit when the engine is experiencing a problem, need to have a scanner h…ooked up to read the codes to see what is going wrong. ( Full Answer )
Without knowing your exact brand of car, this is a difficult question to answer. The first thought I have would be that your vehicle has an immobilizer, in which case you will need to take the immobilizer off before you can start the vehicle. If it's not the case that you have an immobilizer on your… vehicle, I would suggest you refer to the owner's manual for your car, or contact a dealership. ( Full Answer )
