Even the tattoo of the skull has a meaning, as a death ward. The idea is that when death comes to take you he sees the skull and passes you by believing that you're already dead. The meanings of tattoos are so numerous that it's too time consuming for me to list here.

There aren't any specific or concrete meanings for certain tattoo symbols. For example: A cross to some may be just be a cross. But to others, there's a religious meaning.
