Everyone perceives things differently. To me, the lyrics are about money and power, and how it's forever moving,or changing hands. How fickle "fortune" really is. One day you're at the top,the next you could be at the bottom. I also feel there's an emptiness to this "fortune". To obtain/maintain riches, some have to hurt others, and in the end, this will come back on them. It may come back in the way of poverty,or being torn apart by others, because you have obtained "fortune". Jason

Carlyle appears to be challenging his reader as to what he (the reader) will do with it. Will the day be used wisely, or alowed to fritter away uselessly? A very succinct wee poem.
