A story's mood is created by choosing certain words, by your setting, and by characters' actions and dialogue.
At first Stephanie Meyer, the author, makes you feel as if you're Bella Swan and you are experiencing the exact experiences that she is experiencing as well. Since she's the first-person narrator in the book we know everything she knows and see everything she sees. She falls for Edward so we fall for Edward as well. The mood is all cool and happy( she's in love with Edward and everything is perfect) to suspicious and scared( cant tell what James next move might be and when he bites her hand, whether she'll die or turn into a vampire) Hope this helps!:)
