Eridu is argued to be the oldest city on earth. Eridu was built and settled by Sumerians. The Sumerians started the tradition of burying people when they died. The dead were buried with food and tools.


The Sumer people had the first evidence of religion and constructed temples. They worshipped the god Enki. King Alulim is assumed to be the first king of Eridu and the first king ever.
