Wyoming is the least populated State because only 3% of its land can be developed. The rest of the land sits in national parks like Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

There are a few large towns in Wyoming like Cheyenne and Casper.

The weather is off the scale here. Very cold. The snow doesn't fall down, it blows horizontal causing big snow drifts everywhere. It is not unusual to be 20 to 25 below zero with the wind chill factor. And the very short summer in Wyoming includes hail, lighting and rainfall.

The cold climate in most of Alaska. Plus the fact that the largest part of Alaska is wilderness. There is not much industry to employ people, unless you want to be an oil driller or a fisherman in the Arctic seas.
