The name means "pure light" or "of the pure" and is most often associated with Fatima, "daughter of the prophet", Mohamed in the Islamic religion. It also implies that the behaviors of the daughter of Prophet Muhamed, Peace be upon him, are reflected into the personality of the person who is named Fatima. The name is also associated with Our Lady of Fatima, which is a reference to the virgin Mary in the Catholic faith.Fatima, (and similar derivitives Fatimah, Fatma, Fatna, Fahtima, etc.), is the second most common female name in the world, following Mary (and similar derivatives.)More Information:I am Fatima ( the wiki user), and I am named after " the daughter of the prophet!"Fatima, or, in a more exact transliteration, Fāţimah (Arabic: فاطمة ), is originally an Arabic name, meaning "She who weans". It is commonly given as a female personal name among Muslims, after Fatima Zahra ("Fatima the gracious"), the daughter of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The Turkish and Azeri version of the name is Fatma. North African transliterations of the name also often omit the unstressed second syllable and render it as Fatma when romanized. The Persian transliteration is Fatemeh and it is Faḍma in Kabyle Berber. Due to Arabic and Islamic historical and cultural influence, the name is common amongst Spaniards and Portuguese, as well as their cultural descendants in the Americas, and is spelt Fátima. The surname Mǎ (馬), a common family name for Chinese Muslims, is sometimes said to derive from the name Fatima. The town of Fátima in Portugal was named after a Moorish princess. It was the site of a famous Marian apparition in 1917, after which it achieved some popularity as a female personal name among Roman Catholics. It is the name of the prophet Mohammad's daughter (pbuh):)
The following explains how the motto: SPES DURAT AVORUM [Alternatively, translated as:The hope of my ancestors continues, or Let the hopes of our forefathers endure, or May the hope of our forefathers endure, or The hope of my ancestors endures] became at some point in time associated with Kimbolton Castle. The motto: SPES DURAT AVORUM is associated with Frederick Nassau de Zuylestein, third Earl of Rochford (1683/1684-1738) who was married to Lady Bessy Savage (1699-1746) an illegitimate daughter of Richard Savage, fourth Earl Rivers (c. 1660-1712). The first Earl Rivers was Richard Wydevill (1405-1469) married to Jacquetta de Luxembourg (1415/1416-1472). Their daughter, Katherine Woodville (c. 1458-1497), was married to Richard Wingfield of Kimbolton Castle (c. 1456-1525).___________________________________The motto Spes Durat Avorum is also the motto of Queen Elizabeth High School(QEHS), Hexham, Northhumberland, NE463JB, England, established in 1599.The following is the school's song:Spes Durat AvorumHope of our sires, O live on eternallyGleam yet more brightly the older you grow.Send forth your children and watch them maternallyKeeping the spirit of kinship aglow.Long may you flourish and prosper exceedinglyLighting the future with torch of the past;Ever may trouble pass by you unheedingly:Long may the hope of our ancestors last!
Donna is Italian for Lady, as in Prima Donna, First lady ( usually applied to Opera stars) It is the polite prefix for a woman. Donna also derives from Madonna, the term colloquially applied to the Virgin Mary in the Motherhood role, usually- hence statues of the Madonna. Lit- My Lady. Madonna by itself does NOT mean Mother but the statue angle is well, fixed in stone. Donna was also a title of nobility, the wife of a Nobleman was always styled Donna, like Lady, of course regular titles of nobillity were used also such as Contessa ( Countess) etc. From the above it will be seen that Donna, like so many Christian female names, is a Marian variant, as are, unusually Victoria, Fatima, Lupita ( from Our Lady of Guadeloupe) and others Some etymologist even see Virginia as a personal name as a Marian variant- from the Virgin angle.
