What is the movie Girl Interrupted about?

As the movie 'Girl, Interrupted' begins, an 18 year old girl was put into a taxi and taken to Mclean Hospital (a psychiatric hospital). Susanna Kaysen was diagnosed of having borderline- personality disorder. Susanna was depressed and while she was in the hospital she met her future friends at the hospital.

There were many amazing girls brought into Susanna's life (similar to the story in the book). Through her interactions with her fellow patients and the hospital staff, Susanna learns many lessons about life and people and herself:

1.Susanna mostly spent time with one person called Lisa Rowe. Lisa was diagnosed as a sociopath. Lisa has many scars and she is afraid of being hurt. Lisa Rowe might cause some of the other girls depression. Even though Susanna spends most of her time with Lisa Rowe although she was more interested in someone else's life: Polly Clark.

2. Polly Clark is also a patientat the hospital. In trying to deal with her personal angst, she had set herself on fire. She now regrets it, but as soon as she lit that match her life flashed between her eyes. Someone found her awhile after, when she was already burned. She is different from most of the girls, and her family was more disfunctional than most of her fellow patients' families. What Polly is afraid of is that she will never be kissed, that no one is going to want to be with someone with no real face. That she won't want to be hugged by anyone.

Susanna Kaysen was put into the mental hospital in 1968 and she was told she was only going to be there for a couple of weeks, but it didn't end up being that way. She stayed there for about 2 years. Susanna was put into Mclean because she tried to commit suicide by taking 50 aspirin. Susanna Kaysen is intelligent; she had a gift that she never used during high school. She had a gift that she was afraid to lose.

The movie's themes are of healing and coming of age.
