Well. . . it can't be directly said that Pluto the dog was named after the former planet Pluto.
But what is known is that Pluto the dog first got his name from the Disney cartoon on May 18, 1931 called The Moose Hunt, where he is called "Pluto the Pup".
The makers of Pluto the dog claim the name has nothing to do with the planet, but it is still questionable.
Hope this helps!
No. It was probably the other way around.
The previously-unnamed dog Pluto was named in 1930, the same year the planet Pluto was discovered - and named for the Roman god following a suggestion by a British schoolgirl and a recommendation by discoverer Clyde Tombaugh. It has been conjectured (but not shown by any documentation) that Walt Disney wanted to capitalize on the notoriety surrounding the new planet to make the character name instantly recognizable.
It was because of the discovery of the planet (now dwarf planet) Pluto.
I believe he was originally called Hairy Fanny but was changed shortly after when it was discovered that the dog was in fact male
