Mubarak became the 4th President of Egypt on 1981 October 14, and was re-elected every 6 years. Protests against the Egyptian Government began on 2011 January 27, and continued to build. Mubarak, having been president/dictator for nearly 30 years was a prime target of these protests. Mubarak attempted to appease the public, saying he would not run for re-election in October, but after a speech on February 10 indicating his intention to serve the remainder of his term, protests grew so passionately that Mubarak agreed to step down the next day.
