It's not really between any episodes. There is no Naraku in it. I'm not sure, like I don't remember if it has the sacred jewel in it. It's kinda just like "this is the story about a girl who fell down a well into feudal Japan and a boy dog demon." i believe you could actually watch the 1st one without having seen the episodes and it would still work but it might make more sense it you have seen the episodes.
