Wild bees will build a nest, preferably within a hollow in a tree. A beekeeper will provide an artificial home for his/her bees and this is called a hive. A group of hives is called an apiary. Either way, bees living in the same nest are known as a colony.

..Is a Hive. It is composed of a floor, walls and a roof just like your home. It also has a brood box where the queen lays eggs, a queen excluder which keeps the queen in the brood box, but allows the other bees into the next layer which is the super, where honey and pollen is stored. On the top of all of this is a crown board ( like a ceiling), with the roof on top of this.
