The storyline involves Mewtwo being born as a slave to Team Rocket. He rebels and invites all the greatest trainers to his island. Inevitably Team Rocket (Jessie, James and Meowth) and The trio (Ash, Misty and Brock) Somehow wind up there. There's a Pokemon cloning machine so Mewtwo battles all the trainers who turn up with copies of Venosaur, Blastoise and Charizard. These have patterns on their backs that aren't there on the originals. They lose and these weird poke balls steal their pokemon. Ash follows to save pikachu and then gets the originals back then mew turns up and fights Mewtwo. Ash is stupid enough to jump between 2 aura spheres and turns to stone. All the pokemon's tears turn him back and Mewtwo sees the errors of his ways.
