The most recently discovered element is the Ununoctium in 2006,

apparently Element 118 which is Ununoctium is hardly around long enough to do much. It decays in less than a thousandth of a second. Amazing isn't it???

Nihonium - The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), has officially approved the names of four new elements to be added to the Periodic Table. The new elements, Nihonium, Moscovium, Tennessine, and Oganesson, are now officially part of the periodic table, in spots 113, 115, 117, and 118, respectively.

The newest element is (soon to be named) Livermorium, which is number 116 on the periodic table. Its current name is ununhuxium, but it is set to change this week.

Elements 114 and 116 were discovered at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 2004 and 2006. They were recently (2011) officially recognized, but don't have names yet.
