Well, Salvador was the first capital of Brazil from 1549 to 1793, then Rio de Janeiro was the capital from 1793 until 1960.
It is currently Brasilia, before that though it was Rio de Janeiro (pre 1960). Rio took over as the capital from Salvador in 1763.
