The USS Constitution, named by George Washington is the oldest US commissioned ship. She was launched in 1797 and her current mission is to promote the role of the Navy in war and peace through education.
She has a crew of 60 officers and sailors, who are all active-duty US Navy personnel.
The USS Constitution is the oldest comissioned ship in the US Navy. The USS Constitution is "Old Ironsides" and is the oldest ship still commissioned by the U.S. Navy.
The U.S.S. Constitution never sank!!! To this day it is a commissioned ship in the United States Navy and still operational and afloat. Although she is not the oldest commissioned naval vessel afloat (HMS Victory is about 30 years older), the USS Constitution holds the title of being the world's oldest commissioned naval veseel AFLOAT.
Old Ironsides is the nickname of the American Frigate USS Constitution, the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel afloat. She earned the name during the battle with the HMS Guerriere.
The first Nuclear-Powered Aircraft Carrier is the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). She has been in commission since 1961, the second longest commissioned Navy warship behind the USS Constitution. She is also the longest Naval vessel in the world. She is scheduled for decommissioning in 2013.
The "Kitty Hawk" is the oldest active U.S. warship. The ships Commander Master Chief (AW) Cliff Yager said it has served its country well and continues to do so today. Despite the age of this warship it is ready, willing and able to perform duties when needed. The Kitty Hawk is in superb condition because of ongoing inspections throughout the ship. Kitty Hawk was commissioned April 29, 1961, at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. With a total building cost of $265 million, it is the second U.S. Navy ship named after the town near which Orville and Wilbur Wright flew the first successful, powered aircraft Dec. 17, 1903. The Kitty Hawk has participated in combat operations in places such as Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, the Balkans, Afghanistan and most recently, the war in Iraq. The Kitty Hawk Strike Group is the largest aircraft carrier strike group in the Navy and is composed of the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, the guided-missile cruisers, USS Chancellorsville (CG62) and USS Cowpens (CG63), and Destroyer Squadron 15. However, the ship is really a floating museum, and can't really be considered "active" in anything but a ceremonial status. The above U.S.S. Kitty Hawk is no longer in service, having been decommissioned on 12 May 2009. Currently, the ship which has the longest active service record is the U.S.S. Enterprise (CVN-65), commissioned in 1958 and scheduled for decommissioning in 2013.
The USS Constitution, "Old Ironsides", completed in the 1790s, is still a commissioned warship of the US Navy.

The USS Constitution was commissioned in 1797 and is still in active service and the HMS Victory was commissioned in 1778 by the Royal Navy and is in active service. These are kept active for sentimental reasons, but they are in active service in both Navies
If the question is in reference to the USS Constitution, the vessel was commissioned by the Continental Congress in 1794 as part of the following: The Constitution was one of the six original frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794 and was launched in 1797. Joshua Humphreys designed them to be the Navy's capital ships and so Constitution and her sisters were larger and more heavily armed than the standard frigates of the period. Named after the United States Constitution, she is the oldest commissioned ship afloat in the world, and is still in service in the US Navy.

The ship with the longest active service of any commissioned Naval vessel is currently the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). Though the USS Constitution is still an active commissioned Navy vessel, her commission is ceremonial in nature only and she only performs ceremonial and historical functions. The first Nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the Enterprise also has 4 screws, rather than two which most other carriers have. Commissioned in November 1961, she is scheduled currently to be decommissioned after her current supply of nuclear fuel runs out, probably within the next 5 or 6 years.

That is the correct spelling of "constitution". The proper name (the US document) is always capitalized as Constitution. It is also the name of a famous US Navy vessel.
actually they are Vessel Virgins- newly commissioned ships on test runs- evidentally one of them was the R.M.S. Titanic.
The U.S. Navy's USS Long Beach (CGN-9) & USS Enterprise (CVN-65) were the first Navy surface combatants to be powered by nuclear reactors. Both ship keels were laid within 2 months of each other, and commissioned at almost the same time. The Long Beach was commissioned a few weeks prior to the Enterprise, (September 9, 1961). The Enterprise was commissioned on November 25 of that same year. The Long Beach was the only ship of her class, and was the last cruiser built on a traditional cruiser hull. Subsequent cruisers were built on modified, scaled up destroyer hulls. The Long Beach was also the Navy's first guided missile cruiser, which showed the reality that missiles had finally replaced traditional guns for surface-surface engagements. She was decommissioned on July 2, 1994.The Enterprise was still on active service until December 2012, and is currently the oldest active commissioned warship in the Navy (The USS Constitution, though the oldest commissioned vessel, holds a ceremonial commission). Her hull type is a bit different from modern carriers, and her reactor configuration makes her more expensive to maintain. She is scheduled to be decommissioned in March 2013.
