Mine is almost always between 198 and 205 F. Idling for an extended time will take it up to 210 F.

It is the coolant temp sensor near the upper radiator hose.
minimum, optimum and maximum temp
If it's the same as a 1999 model, the outside temperature module is located in front of the radiator and behind the front bumper.
optimum temp food suply optimum ph anaerobic conditions
Is cooling fan working? Radiator clogged? Air flow through radiator resrticted? Temp gauge accurate - check with manual?
Sounds like you need a new radiator cap, you can get the cap tested to see if it is holding the rated pressure.
The coolant temp sensor on a 97 Buick Century is on the side of the radiator. It is just below the radiator cap.
Coolant Temp below thermostat regulating temp.

The air temp sensor that is displayed on the overhead consloe is located under the hood, in front of the radiator, on the left side looking at the engine. It is about 6 inches down with a two conductor wire leading to it. It attaches to the radiator support bracket.

The coolant temp sensor is located on the manifold, just to the left of the thermostat housing on the right side of the engine compartment. They are both located just under the air intake tube that attaches to the throttle body, and it has a small 2 wire connector attached to it. You can follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the thermostat housing to locate them. Good luck.
