In 2011 (the most recent figures) the census shows a Muslim population for England and Wales of 2.7 million people - 4.8% of the population.

The part of the the UK with the largest % population of Muslims was the London Borough of Tower Hamlets - 34.5%. Historically, the Midlands has a higher population of Muslims than the South-West of the country.

(The religion question was the only voluntary question on the 2011 census and 7.2 per cent of people did not answer the question)
