UC Davis has a 40.6% acceptance rate. Which is pretty great! Of course, that only tells a small part of the story. If you are thinking of applying there, it's important to understand the types of students they typically accept (and with whom you'll be competing for that spot!)

The average ACT score for incoming freshmen is a 26 (with most students falling into the range of 25-31). The average SAT score (based on the old scale) was about an 1800. And the average high school GPA was somewhere between a 3.5 and 3.7.

Where do you fall with regards to those stats? If your stats are below, it doesn't mean you shouldn't apply. It just means this school is a reach for you, and you're going to have to use your application to prove how amazing you are and how you're going to make an AWESOME Davis student.

If you're right in line with 'em or above, this is a great option for you. Of course, it's not a guarantee! Especially if you're not a California resident, since the school reserves a large chunk of each class to them. So the REST of your profile is going to have to stand out as well: your activities, what classes you've taken, your leadership experience, etc. And all of THAT is going to come through via your essays + your letter of recommendation. So it's important you take the application process seriously and give it your all. Even with a favorable acceptance rate, 60% of applicants WON'T get in... so you gotta put your best foot forward on ALL fronts to make sure you make it into that 40%!
