He meets this guy named Troy, who isn't very friendly. Troy is trying to get Marcus away from Charlie who is Troy's dad. Troy and his family is desperate to keep a secret from everyone about his father. Turns out, Charlie has Alzheimer; which is a type of disease that makes you forget about your future and makes you only remember your past. Well, to Charlie Marcus is his best friend "Mac". Also Marcus soon finds out that Charlie is the "King of Pop" of football.
There is big shocker in the end that makes you say; "What! This can't happen!."
This book is so, so good. I could read a thousand times if I wanted to!
The setting of the book "Pop" by Gordon Korman is primarily in a high school where the main character, Marcus Jordan, attends. The story also takes place in a small town where Marcus and his family live, and it explores the themes of sports, friendship, and family dynamics within this setting.
Charlie has Alzheimer's and can do very scarring stuff so when Marcus finds that out, he is shocked that he also used to be a famous football player. So when Marcus is at his football game and sees Charlie on the edge of the bleachers he runs up and tries to save him. Marcus shields his eyes while Charlie is thinking he's 16 again and trying to catch the large gray brown hawk ,but suddenly Marcus uncovers his eyes and Charlie isn't there anymore! Charlie fell to his last gasp as he hit the ground.
The climax is the point of highest emotional intensity. Therefore, the climmax of pop is on page 249 when marcus closes his eyes for a split second and then when he opens them Charlie is gone. I would like to say that the climax is not when charlie is taken to the ebu football game or even when he realizes that he has been putin a retirement home. Hope this helped! Go daniel wright...lol
