The shepherd's line: "Thou mett'st with things dying, I with things new-born" (III, iii, 110-111) is treated as if it were a turning point from tragic death to comedic life. There are two others but this is the one most people agree with.

The overall story line of The Winter's Tale is that Leontes, the king of Sicilia, believes that his wife, Hermione, is cheating on him with his childhood friend Polixenes, king of Bohemia. Because of his he attempts to kill Polixenes, who escapes to Bohemia (he was visiting Leontes in Sicilia), and sends Hermione to jail. It is also revealed that Hermione is pregnant with a daughter, but Leontes, thinking the child is Polixenes' has his loyal aide Antigonus leave it in the wild. As a result, Leontes' son, Mamillus, a young boy, dies because of worry for his mother in prison, and after hearing of her sons death the queen dies as well. This tragedy brings Leontes to realizes his fault.

Sixteen years later in Bohemia we find that Leontes' long lost daughter, Perdita, is alive and well, romancing with Florizel, Polixenes' son, though no one knows of her royal heritage. In the end, to sum it up, Leontes and Polixenes make up, Leontes is reunited with Perdita, Pertida is married to Florizel, and we also find out that Hermione didn't actually die.
