The poem can be interpreted in any ways however the one which seems to be commonly used is the idea that time is never enough. Time and love are at a battles, love fighting to spend more time with the lover, and time chasing them. all lovers believe that they need more time. A day, a week, a month is never enough. This peom highlights this idea. Yet, when looking at it more deeply there seems to be a darker tone to it as it has reference to Rumplustilskin and King Midas (mythical king who turned everything he touched into gold). Furtheremore, there is a lot of references to materialistic values such as 'gold', 'jewel' and chandlier'. This can suggest that love makes the speaker feel as if love is equvalent to these pressius values.

However there is also a different interpretation to this poem, it being that a couple is having an affair and that they dont get to spend enoug time with each other. And, the materialistic values could be what he is givin her. However i dont feel strongly about this idea and message of the poem and prefere the first concept.

hope this helps
