Trachea is in superior to the heart. It divides into two branches in back of (posterior to) the upper part of the heart; in other words, the heart is anterior and inferior to the trachea. Both are medial; neither is lateral to the other.

Here's what I think the above means.

The trachea is above the heart (nearer the head). The heart is in front of and below the trachea (nearer the waist). Both are in the center of the chest left to right, they are not beside each other left to right.

there is a similar question about this but the answer listed said your heart is in the middle of your two lungs and that is just wrong.. your heart is in the left rib cage not in the middle of your body. now is the left lung a different shape to accommodate the heart? maybe that is what he meant... someone help me out.

it is superior (above) the diaphragm and sits in between the two lungs, slighty more to the left side of the body
