The prep for a renal ultrasound is nothing to eat or drink after midnight. The exception is that you must have completed drinking approximately 32 oz. (or have a completely full bladder) of water/clear liquids by 1 hour prior to your test time. You should start drinking about 1 1/2 hours before the procedure and finish drinking by 1 hour prior. Once you have started drinking the fluids, do not use the bathroom until after your test.
You lie on your back on a table. The doctor will place a cold jelly (sometimes it is warmed) on the area around your kidneys and your bladder. Then, he moves the transducer gently over the spreaded areas. The exam itself is absolutely painless!
Only the fact, that your bladder has to be VERY full for the exam (otherwise the technician is not able to see everything), will cause you some pressure in your bladder, espescially when they run over your lower belly ;-)
Dont be afraid! Its quickly over and you will feel much better, once you can empty yourself :)

Ultra-sounds are completely harmless, you will not feel a thing.
This is essentially a normal kidney ultrasound. A mild cortical echogenicity in both kidneys, and normal renal function can occur in pregnancy when your over-all blood volume is increased.
it's very expensive , last time I had it done for kidney stone it was 1100 dollars for hospital and Dr charged me $800 at Northwestern .Chicago
A left kidney with mild pelvocaliectasis means that the kidney has a dilated renal pelvis as well as calyces. This can be see through an ultrasound and it curable.
