This word problem needs to be written out. Before we write it out let's explain the operations that are involved.

"What is the product of five and the sum of 4 and -6?"

Product always means you're going to multiply, the sum means addition.

"What is the product of five" means that what ever the sum of 4 and -6 is we're going to multiply that by 5.

So we have 5 x _____

Now "and the sum of 4 and -6", mean's we're going to add 4 and -6 together.

So we now have 5 x (4 + (-6))

The problem is now written out, let's do the math. Remember order of operations which is Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and lastly Subtraction.

5 x (4 + (-6)) = 5 x (-2) = -10.

So the answer for "What is the product of five and the sum of 4 and -6" is -10.
